Full CLI capabilities — file reading, editing, running commands, tools — all from your phone.\n\n**No MCP server. No Go compiler. No Python. You send a message in your WhatsApp **\"Message Yourself\"** chat\n2. The bridge picks it up and spawns Claude Code with your message\n3. Claude Code works on your project (reads files, edits code, runs tests)\n4. The response is sent back to your WhatsApp\n\nOnly messages in your self-chat trigger the bridge. Messages to other people are completely ignored.\n\n## Quick Start\n\n### Prerequisites\n\n- [Node.js 18+](https://nodejs.org)\n- [Claude Code CLI](https://docs.anthropic.com/en/docs/claude-code) installed and authenticated (`claude` command on your PATH)\n\n### Option A: npx (zero install)\n\n```bash\nmkdir claude-code-whatsapp && cd claude-code-whatsapp\nnpx claude-code-whatsapp\n```\n\nFirst run launches an interactive setup wizard:\n\n```\n  WhatsApp-Claude Code Bridge — Setup\n\n  Your phone number (international, no +, e.g. 14155551234): 14155551234\n  Project directory for Claude Code (/current/dir): /path/to/your/project\n  Claude model (claude-opus-4-6):\n\n  Created .env — run the same command again to start the bridge.\n```\n\nThen run again to start:\n\n```bash\nnpx claude-code-whatsapp\n```\n\n### Option B: Clone and run\n\n```bash\ngit clone https://github.com/dashiz91/claude-code-whatsapp.git\ncd claude-code-whatsapp\nnpm install\n```\n\nCopy `.env.example` to `.env` and fill in your values:\n\n```bash\ncp .env.example .env\n```\n\n```env\n# Your phone number — international format, no + prefix\nALLOWED_PHONE=14155551234\n\n# The directory Claude Code will work in\nPROJECT_DIR=/path/to/your/project\n\n# Claude model (defaults to claude-opus-4-6)\n# CLAUDE_MODEL=claude-opus-4-6\n```\n\nStart the bridge:\n\n```bash\nnpm run dev\n```\n\n### Scan the QR Code\n\nOn first launch, a QR code appears in your terminal:\n\n```\nScan this QR code with WhatsApp on your phone:\n█████████████████████████████\n█████████████████████████████\n████ ▄▄▄▄▄ █ ▀▄█ █ ▄▄▄▄▄ ████\n...\n```\n\nOpen WhatsApp on your phone → **Settings** → **Linked Devices** → **Link a Device** → scan the QR code.\n\nThe session persists in `auth_state/` — you only need to scan once. If the session expires (~20 days), a new QR code will appear automatically.\n\n### Send a message\n\nOpen the **\"Message Yourself\"** chat in WhatsApp and type anything:\n\n> What files are in the src directory?\n\nClaude Code processes it and responds right in the chat.\n\n## Commands\n\n| Command | Description |\n|---------|-------------|\n| `/clear` | Reset conversation session |\n| `/session new` | Start a fresh Claude Code session |\n| `/project` | Show current working directory |\n| `/project <path>` | Change working directory (resets session) |\n| `/help` | Show available commands |\n\n## Environment Variables\n\n| Variable | Required | Description |\n|----------|----------|-------------|\n| `ALLOWED_PHONE` | Yes | Your phone number, international format without `+` (e.g. `14155551234`) |\n| `PROJECT_DIR` | Yes | Working directory for Claude Code |\n| `CLAUDE_MODEL` | No | Claude model to use (defaults to `claude-opus-4-6`) |\n\n## Security\n\n- **Self-chat only** — the bridge only responds to messages you send to yourself. Messages to or from other people are completely ignored.\n- **Local execution** — Claude Code runs on your machine (or server). No data is sent to third parties beyond the Anthropic API.\n- **No message storage** — the bridge doesn't store or log message content. WhatsApp credentials stay in `auth_state/` (gitignored).\n\n## Deploy to a Server (Cloud)\n\nRun on any VPS with Node.js and Claude Code CLI:\n\n```bash\ngit clone https://github.com/dashiz91/claude-code-whatsapp.git\ncd claude-code-whatsapp\nnpm install && npm run build\n```\n\nSet up your `.env`, then:\n\n```bash\nnpm start\n```\n\nScan the QR code once (SSH into the server or use the terminal).
