The\ncurrent state is not \"generic Bun starter plus future intentions\". It is a\nrepo with an explicit product contract, an execution ledger, and a documented\narchitecture that future Codex sessions can use without rediscovering the\nsystem design.\n\n## What this repo is for\n\n`deps-workbench` exists to reduce repeated discovery cost in dependency upgrade\nwork. Instead of asking an interactive Codex session to repeatedly:\n\n- rediscover package versions and upgrade targets\n- re-collect release notes, docs, usage hotspots, and source diffs\n- re-decide whether an upgrade is low-risk, review-heavy, or blocked\n- re-summarize migration work from scratch\n\nthis repo will provide a deterministic prep phase plus a bounded analysis phase\nthat yields typed artifacts, typed results, and action-oriented manifests.\n\n## Current status\n\n- [done] Repo scaffold and authority docs are in place\n- [done] Phase 01 bootstrap foundation is verified complete\n- [done] Phase 02 typed contracts, storage, and policy loading\n- [done] Phase 03 deterministic prep collectors and prep bundles\n- [done] Phase 04 analysis runtime, routing, and canonical result bundles\n- [todo] Phase 05 reporting, run, and resume operator flows\n- [todo] Phase 06 bundled-skills ownership, release automation, migration, and\n release readiness\n\n## Product shape\n\nThe canonical v1 design is:\n\n- Bun-native single-package repository\n- CLI-first core with the command surface:\n - `prepare`\n - `analyze`\n - `report`\n - `run`\n - `resume`\n- JSON-first prep bundles and result bundles\n- Zod as the source of truth for checked-in contracts\n- OpenAI Agents JS SDK for the analysis runtime\n- conservative model routing with implementation-only bounded recovery\n- hidden `.local/` runtime state for runs, cache, and local overrides\n- top-level `skills/` as the future source of truth for package-coupled skills\n\n## Bundled skills\n\nThis repo will own the source of truth for the package-coupled skills that\ndepend directly on `deps-workbench` command contracts and artifact shapes.\n\nPlanned bundled skills:\n\n- `deps-workbench`\n- `opensrc-inspect`\n- `repo-modernize-upgrade-audit`\n\nThose skills will be tracked in-repo under `skills/`, versioned separately from\nruntime package releases, and installed outward into agent skill directories via\nrepo-documented wrappers around the standard `skills` CLI.\n\n## Quick start\n\n```bash\nbun install\nbun run biome:write\nbun run biome:ci\nbun run dev prepare --request \"upgrade react to latest\" --package react\nbun run dev analyze --run-id run_123\nbun run dev\nbun run test\nbun run typecheck\nbun run check\n```\n\nThe CLI now has real `prepare` and `analyze` commands. `report`, `run`, and\n`resume` remain phased placeholders.
