README
synced Oct 21, 2026🧠 Second Brain MCP Server
A production-grade Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that provides persistent, searchable, AI-accessible memory for Large Language Models. Built with TypeScript, Supabase, and OpenAI embeddings.
Cost: ~$0.30/month | Setup: <10 minutes | Capacity: 250K+ memories
🎯 Purpose
Second Brain MCP solves a fundamental problem: LLMs have no persistent memory. Every conversation starts fresh, with no context from previous interactions.
This project provides:
- 🧠 Persistent Memory - Store and retrieve information across sessions
- 🔍 Semantic Search - Find memories by meaning, not just keywords
- 🤖 LLM Integration - Works with Claude, ChatGPT, and any MCP-compatible tool
- 💰 Cost-Effective - ~$0.30/month using free tiers
- 🚀 Production-Ready - Type-safe, tested, documented, secure
Real-World Use Cases
- Personal Knowledge Base - Remember everything you learn
- Project Context - Maintain context across coding sessions
- Research Assistant - Store and retrieve research findings
- Meeting Notes - Searchable archive of discussions
- Learning Journal - Track your learning journey
- Code Snippets - Semantic search for code examples

🚀 Quick Start
Prerequisites
- Node.js 18+
- Supabase account (free tier)
- OpenAI API key
1. Clone Repository
git clone https://github.com/anuragg-saxenaa/second-brain-mcp.git
cd second-brain-mcp
2. Automated Setup
chmod +x setup.sh
./setup.sh
3. Configure Environment
cp .env.example .env
# Edit .env with your credentials:
# - SUPABASE_URL
# - SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY
# - OPENAI_API_KEY
4. Run Database Migration
- Go to your Supabase dashboard → SQL Editor
- Copy contents of
supabase/migrations/001_initial_schema.sql - Paste and run (CMD/CTRL + Enter)
5. Test It!
node scripts/cli.js interactive
# Try these commands:
> add Vector databases use HNSW for fast search
> search database algorithms
> stats
> exit
6. Integrate with Claude Desktop
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json
Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json
