What It Does

Tell Claude Code what you want to build. Skill Curator automatically:

1. Analyzes your goal and breaks it into tasks
2. Searches 117,000+ skills with keyword + AI semantic matching
3. Verifies each result via GitHub (stars, last push, docs quality, license)
4. Scores every skill on a 0-100 quality scale
5. Returns a workflow plan with ranked recommendations, alternatives, and install links

Works in English and Japanese. The skill detects your language and responds accordingly.

Setup

Step 1. Create a free Apify account

Go to apify.com and sign up. New accounts get $5 free credit (~30 searches).

Step 2. Get your API token

1. Go to console.apify.com → Settings → API & Integrations
2. Copy the token (starts with apify_api_)

Step 3. Add Skill Curator to Apify MCP Configurator

1. Open mcp.apify.com
2. Click "Add or remove Actors"
3. Search for "Skill Curator" and add it
4. Under Tools, make sure "Call Actor" is checked
5. Copy the MCP server URL shown at the top

Step 4. Add MCP config to Claude Code

Create or edit .mcp.json in your project root (or ~/.claude/settings.json for global):

Troubleshooting

1. Check your .mcp.json contains the apify server config
2. The server name must be exactly "apify" (determines tool prefix mcp__apify__)
3. Restart Claude Code after config changes
4. Ask Claude: "List available MCP tools" — look for mcp__apify__call_actor

• 401 Unauthorized: Apify token is invalid or expired. Regenerate at console.apify.com
• 402 Payment Required: Insufficient Apify credits. Check your balance.
• Timeout: Rare. Try again with a simpler query.

• Rephrase your goal more specifically
• Include technology names (e.g., "React" instead of "frontend framework")
• AI semantic search works best with natural-language descriptions

FAQ

Q: Do I need a SkillsMP API key? No. The Apify Actor handles SkillsMP integration internally. You only need an Apify token.

Q: Can I use this offline? No. Internet access is required for Apify, SkillsMP, and GitHub APIs.

Q: Is my search data stored? Search results are stored temporarily in your Apify dataset (standard retention policy). No data is shared with third parties.

Q: What happens if SkillsMP or GitHub is down? The actor handles errors gracefully. If GitHub enrichment fails, it returns SkillsMP data without quality scores.
