skill
things-orient
Read-only skill for lazy-loading Things 3 board state into an agent's context -- full board render for planning, or a lighter search-first dedup path before creating a task. Never proposes or executes
Set up
Skills are installed by placing their folder where your agent loads skills.
The download comes from github.com/stanleytejakusuma/things-orient itself, not from our server, so what you get is exactly what its author published.

A SKILL.md for reading current Things 3 board state into an agent's
context — deliberately, not on every turn. Full item titles across Inbox,
Backlog, Next, In Progress, and Waiting, in one shape an agent can reason
about, plus a lighter dedup-only path for before you create a task.
Why
Two habits this exists to enforce:
- Read before you write. Before adding a task, search for an existing one first — an agent that doesn't dedupe against the board just accumulates near-duplicate tasks over time.
- Don't over-read. This is the heavy call (full item titles, not just counts), so it's meant to be invoked deliberately — before planning work, or right before a mutation — not fired reflexively on every session start.
It's read-only by design. It observes; it never proposes or executes changes on its own.
What it is
A SKILL.md — a markdown procedure file, not a script. No code to
install, no external service. It calls two MCP tools
(mcp__things3__get_inbox, mcp__things3__get_projects) that any Things 3
MCP server exposing that interface provides.
Install
Pi, Claude Code, and opencode all resolve skills the same way — a
<name>/SKILL.md folder in a known directory:
git clone https://github.com/stanleytejakusuma/things-orient.git
# Pi (global)
mkdir -p ~/.pi/agent/skills/things-orient
cp things-orient/SKILL.md ~/.pi/agent/skills/things-orient/
# Claude Code (global) -- opencode auto-discovers this same path too
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/things-orient
cp things-orient/SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/things-orient/
Project-local: .pi/agent/skills/, .claude/skills/, or .opencode/skills/
inside a repo, if you want it scoped instead of global.
Any other agent that reads a file can run the same procedure — no special
plugin format required, just point it at SKILL.md.
Requires
A Things 3 MCP server exposing get_inbox and get_projects tools. This
skill is the read/render procedure on top of that interface, not the MCP
server itself.
